Raffle Prize Sponsors – Their role in your success

Your relationship with your raffle prize sponsors can have an overwhelming influence on your raffle success.  Birregurra Primary School has friends in high places and it paid off when conducting their school raffle recently.

The Cause

Birregurra Primary is an exceptional rural school with 85 students across four classrooms. The school’s vision of care, curiosity, innovation and progressive practices ensures that all students thrive in our ever-changing world. To help fulfill this vision, every Birregurra Primary School child has access to their own iPad or laptop from Prep to Grade 6 – a program made possible by annual fundraising efforts, such as this raffle. Your ticket purchase will help to ensure that every child, irrespective of family financial circumstances, is given the opportunity to thrive in the area of digital literacy throughout their primary years.

The Sponsor

Multi-Award winning Brae Restaurant is located in Birregurra, Victoria supported the school by supplying a must-buy-ticket prize and with marketing. Brae is one of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017, Australia’s Top Restaurants 2017 No. 1, The Age Good Food Guide 2017 Restaurant of the Year.

The Prize

Enjoy the dining experience of a lifetime at the multi-award winning Brae Restaurant in Birregurra. The prize includes your choice of lunch or dinner for two, drinks on arrival and throughout your meal, an overnight stay in a luxury guest suite, evening supper plate, breakfast, a self-guided tour of Brae Farm, a signed copy of Chef Dan Hunter’s book ‘Brae – Recipes and Stories from the Restaurant’, and priority booking for your preferred date.

Ticket Price and Packages

$5 tickets and a selection of packages at various price point to entice bulk purchasing resulting in an average sale of $26.31.

Timing

Term 2 of school -27th April selling out on the 20th June. Two solid months of selling without the distractions of back to school or holidays to navigate.

The Marketing Plan

A combination of local promotion and reaching out to Brae followers on social media.

  • Posted weekly on Facebook Birregurra Community Page
  • Posted fortnightly on Brae Restaurant Instagram (64,000 followers)
  • Posted fortnightly on Brae Restaurant Twitter (19,600 followers)
  • Raffle report with sales stats and call to action for all school families inserted in fortnightly school newsletter requesting they share on social media, purchase tickets and visit those without access to internet to request they purchase.
  • PTFA used as sales captains and urged to share on social media.
  • Raffle poster inserted in Birregurra Mail fortnightly (local paper distributed throughout Birregurra and surrounding towns)
  • Raffle poster distributed throughout town x 15

Julianne from Brae Restaurant notes “The sales peaks came following our Brae social media posts, as can be seen in the report with about 600 tickets sold to our followers as a result of those posts.“

Results

Birregurra Primary School raffle sold out a week before its predicted close raising a neat $10,000 in gross proceeds.

Teachings
  1. Pick your timing to avoid distractions.
  2. Approach people or contacts that have reputation in the community to support your raffle.
  3. Ensure you have a sought after prize to generate interest and deliver sales.
  4. Ask your raffle sponsors to share their raffle involvement with their customer base via social media and email. After all it is good kudos for them to highlight their raffle contribution to the wider community. Also the sponsor’s customers are probably most interested in the prize supplied by the sponsor.
  5. Use a collection of marketing avenues to promote your raffle to engage potential ticket buyers in various ways.
  6. Keep communicating.
